Creative Blast
Monkey Town / Project story 01

It started with a bar.
It became a world.

In 2019, Creative Blast created the design illustration for Monkey Town's new bar. That illustration marked the start of a much broader collaboration: from Oehlie in a new style to walls, merchandise and play equipment.

The starting point: the design illustration for the new bar, 2019.
01 / From drawing to space

An idea made
tangible.

A bar is part of the overall play environment. Materials, colours, shapes and illustrations together define the atmosphere. The design visual brought those elements together for the first time.

02 / Character & visual language

Oehlie gained
a new world.

After the bar came Oehlie and the illustrations in the new style. A recognisable character, surrounded by a colourful jungle world that could grow across walls, products and play equipment.

That visual language extends throughout Monkey Town: from party rooms to Laser Town and Jump Town. Each application has its own treatment, built on the same recognisable world.

Oehlie and his world: an illustration style that connects every application.
03 / A world of applications

From party room
to Laser Town.

The illustrations give different spaces their own atmosphere. From a festive setting around Oehlie's house to the dark, energetic look of Laser Town.

Design illustrations and photographs of the completed work show how the visual language translates into spaces where children play and celebrate.

Laser Town: the same world, with a different atmosphere.

Realisation: illustrations used to decorate a party room.
04 / Down to the smallest details

A recognisable style.
All around you.

Oehlie's world extends beyond the walls. Merchandise, cups, chip trays and bins carry the same visual language. Large and small applications combine to create one recognisable experience.

From play equipment to the party table: the design responds to the setting, purpose and moment in which children encounter it.

A growing collaboration

Started in 2019.
Still growing.

That first bar illustration grew into visual interior design work for more than thirty Monkey Town locations. A collaboration in which concept, character and design remain closely connected.

Creative Blast's work can be found across all 70+ Monkey Town locations in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and England. From illustrations and interiors to recognisable applications of Oehlie: one visual world creating coherence across borders.
